Add texture to your crochet and make a cute spring earwarmer!

Once you know your basic crochet stitches (single, double, and half-double), textured stitches like bobbles and puffs are a great next step! Designer Briana K’s popular Wheat Stitch patterns are a fun and stylish introduction to crochet puff stitches. Briana’s latest pattern, the Wheat Stitch Earwarmer, is a quick little project perfect for trying out this technique. So let’s dive in together!

Maria will help students get started by reading through the pattern. The earwarmer is crocheted flat, and you’ll start with some single crochet rows. Then, you’ll learn the Wheat Stitch! Adventurous students can choose to add mohair and/or do a striped version. At the end of class, we’ll sew our earwarmers up, and you’ll have a cute new piece to keep you toasty through the unpredictable Chicago spring! Time permitting, we’ll also take a look at some of Briana K’s other Wheat Stitch patterns, as well as other types of puff stitches and bobbles, so you can plan your next textured crochet project.

This is a Beginner/Advanced Beginner crochet class. Students should already know chain stitch, single crochet, and double crochet. It’s a great class to take after taking Novice Crochet! Students will learn pattern reading, crocheting in the back loops, Briana K’s Wheat Stitch and similar puff stitch techniques, and tips for counting stitches.

Cost: $90.00 per student, class limit is 6 students.

Yarn: Students will need 35-155 yards of worsted weight yarn, depending on which size you make. You can purchase yarn in the shop before class, or bring yarn from your stash. We recommend Malabrigo Rios, used in the designer’s original versions, but there are many possibilities!

Pattern: Please purchase Wheat Stitch Earwarmer by Briana K Designs on Ravelry prior to class, and bring a printed copy.

Other Materials: US G (4.5mm) crochet hook or hook needed to get gauge, tapestry needle, scissors, and locking stitch markers (optional). All materials available for purchase in the shop.
