Use your new crochet skills for a pair of cozy, giftable mittens!

Are you a beginner crocheter who’s ready to graduate from scarves and squares to something more complex? Looking for fun and cozy accessories to wear and gift this winter? Join us for the Hopscotch Mittens Crochet Class! In this two-session class, you’ll learn to read a pattern and make your first mitten. We’ll start by crocheting the cuff flat, then we’ll turn that piece into a circle and learn how to crochet in the round together. In session two, we’ll learn to decrease at the top of the mitten and add the thumb.

This pattern uses bulky yarn, a large hook, and basic stitches, making it perfect for newer crocheters. In addition to working through the pattern with you, Maria will give you tips for things like gauge, counting your stitches, and working into back and front loops. If you’ve taken Novice Crochet and/or have made a scarf or other flat piece, you’re ready for this class!

Skills: This is a Beginner/Advanced Beginner crochet class. Students should feel confident with chain stitch and single crochet stitch.

You will learn: Pattern reading, crochet in the round, crochet through the front/back loops only, decreasing, and general crochet tips.

Pattern: Purchase Hopscotch Mittens on Etsy.

Yarn: Arrive early to purchase yarn: 145-220 yards of Bulky yarn. We recommend Malabrigo Vientos or Chunky, as this pattern is particularly nice for showing off hand-dyed, multi-colored yarns.

Other Materials: 6.5 mm crochet hook, tapestry needle, scissors, locking stitch markers.
