Improve your crochet skills and make a delightful sweater vest!

If you can single crochet and double crochet, and have finished a few small projects like a scarf or hat, you’re ready to join Maria and make this adorable crocheted vest! See My Vest by designer Zeens & Roger is a bottom-up garment, which means we’ll start by crocheting the bottom ribbing and work our way up. Then we’ll learn the granny stitch (similar to a granny square, but done in long rows) and make the body. Finally, we’ll tackle the armhole and neckline shaping, then finish everything off with a neat and tidy single crochet border.

Along the way, we’ll go over garment construction, how to read a crochet pattern, how to choose your garment size, and the importance of gauge in crochet. See My Vest is made with DK weight yarn, and students can choose to make their vest one solid color, striped with 2-5 colors, or “scrappy” with lots of colors from your stash! We’ll discuss color selection for the striped and scrappy versions during the first session of class, so come prepared with your ideas! Skills needed: This class is intended for students who know the basics of crochet and are ready to make a garment. Students should know the chain, single, and double crochet stitches, and have completed a few simple projects such as a hat or scarf.

You will learn: Reading a pattern, garment size selection and construction, the basics of gauge, foundation double crochet, front post/back post ribbing, and granny stitch.

Yarn: DK weight yarn in the yardage necessary for your size. Students may choose to make their vest one solid color, striped with 2-5 colors, or “scrappy” with lots of colors. Come early to make your selection with our expert help! Students are also welcome to bring some stash yarn from home to incorporate. Maria’s vest (in-progress photos) is using 5 colors of Plied Yarns North Avenue Twist, inspired by Ann Weaver’s version (blue/green/purple) which uses 4 colors of Plied. Pattern: Please purchase See My Vest by Zeens and Roger on Ravelry and bring a printed copy to class. Please note: you will be prompted to print a 20+ page document, but you only need to print the second half, which is the “US Terms” version of the pattern.

Other Materials: US G (4.0mm) crochet hook, tapestry needle, scissors, locking stitch markers.
