Knit a gauzy, dreamy tee for the summer— even if it’s your first sweater ever!

Do you love the look of mohair but feel a little nervous about working with such a tiny delicate yarn? Then try knitting it on big needles! We love this technique for knitting easy, gauzy fabric with laceweight silk mohair, and designer Park Williams does it fabulously in her new pattern Base Spirit Tee! Join Shara in this four week class and learn to knit the Base Spirit Tee… even if it’s your first sweater!

Students in this four week class should complete a gauge swatch before class begins. Then in the first session, you’ll review your swatches and cast on together! Choose from nine unisex sizes to get the perfect fit. Students will learn how to follow the pattern, shape the sweater, and more—including how and when to hold the mohair yarn single, double, or triple! Not a fan of mohair? We can guide you towards other alternatives that use alpaca, wool, cashmere, and/or yak for a similar but unique effect.

Skills: This is an Advanced Beginner/Intermediate class. Students should know how to cast-on, knit, and purl, be comfortable knitting in the round, and have made a hat or a cowl previously. Previous sweater knitting experience is not required.

Skills you’ll learn: Pattern reading, working with lace yarn and larger needles, German short rows, picking up stitches for a collar, a version of seamless sweater construction, and stretchy bind-off.

Tools needed: US 10.5 circular needles for body and sleeves (or size needed to achieve gauge), US 8 for ribbing, stitch markers, stitch stopper, and tapestry needle for weaving in ends.
