Hook up a fast and warm winter hat!

Crocheters— we can’t let the knitters have all the fun in the bulky yarn section, can we? Grab a big chunky hook and some big bulky yarn, and learn how to make the Hayride Hat by Justine Walley! We’ll start by crocheting the brim flat, then we’ll turn that piece into a circle and learn how to crochet in the round together. The large yarn and hook size means you’ll finish your hat fast… don’t forget to add a fur pompom to finish the look!

This recent design uses a few special stitches, including extended half double and crocheting in the back loops. Maria will demonstrate these new special stitches in class, so if you’ve taken Novice Crochet and/or have made a scarf or other flat piece, you’re ready to join us.

Skills: This is a Beginner/Advanced Beginner crochet class. Students should be familiar with chain stitch, single crochet stitch, and half double crochet stitch.

You will learn: Pattern reading, crochet in the round, crochet through the front/back loops only, extended half double crochet, and other special stitches.

Pattern: Purchase Hayride Hat by Justine Walley on Ravelry, or at Sister-Arts.

Yarn: Arrive early to purchase yarn: 130 yards of Bulky yarn (such as Malabrigo Chunky) or 90 yards of Super Bulky Yarn (such as Malabrigo Rasta).

Other Materials: 7.0mm crochet hook for Bulky version, or 9.0mm crochet hook for Super Bulky version, tapestry needle, scissors, locking stitch markers.
