Week 3 - June 22-26: Needle & Wet Felting / Yarn Dyeing & Spinning
Needle & Wet Felting (Morning)/ Yarn Dyeing & Spinning (Afternoon)
Morning Session (10am-Noon): Campers will explore the art of felting with 100% wool roving to create a charming 3-dimensional animal figurine and decorate a felt pencil case using the needle (dry) felting technique. Then, they’ll get their hands wet and learn the art of wet felting! With this technique, our young fiber artists will use wool roving, water, and agitation to make decorative wool covered beads, and multi-colored wool fabric.
Afternoon Session (1-3pm): Campers will use a drop spindle and learn basic hand-spinning techniques using wool pencil roving. On the second day of spinning, each will take turns learning to spin yarn on a traditional spinning wheel. During the next two days campers will explore the exciting adventure of dyeing wool yarn with color-safe dyes. Once dyed and set in the microwave, the yarn will be rinsed, hung to dry then wound on the swift/ball winder in preparation to knit or crochet. On the last day, campers will use their own colorful hand-dyed yarn to knit or crochet swatches of their newly created yarn.
$285 Morning or Afternoon
