Make Maria’s popular Yarn Crawl crochet pattern with her!

For the 2025 Yarn Crawl, our crochet instructor Maria designed the Cold Plunge granny square hood inspired by our time at Isager Yarns in Denmark. Did you pick up a copy during the Yarn Crawl? Then make it with us! In this class, you’ll learn to make your own Cold Plunge Hood, from color selection to putting it all together!

The rich color palette of the hood comes from holding two strands of yarn together, aka “marling.” In our first session, we’ll start out with a discussion of marling, and how we can apply Cecelia Campochiaro’s principles of color theory in marled knitting to our work as crocheters. Then once we’ve selected our colors, we’ll start crocheting our granny squares! In the next two sessions, students will learn how to join their granny squares and finish the hood.

This is an Advanced Beginner crochet class. Students should already know chain stitch, single crochet, and double crochet. Previous experience making Granny Squares is helpful, but not strictly necessary. We recommend taking our Granny Square Workshop before you take this class.

Cost: $130.00 per student, class limit is 6 students.

Yarn: Fingering weight yarn. The original pattern calls for five colors of Isager Merilin (80% wool, 20% linen), which we recommend for its great texture and dozens of marling options. However, adventurous crocheters may also bring light fingering weight yarns from their stash, or shop other yarns. Come early to browse our selection, and make your final decision during the first session of class.

Pattern: Cold Plunge Hood by Maria Hlohowskyj will be included.

Other Materials: US G (4mm) crochet hook or hook needed to get gauge, tapestry needle, scissors, and locking stitch markers. All materials available for purchase in the shop.
