Learn how to knit brioche and perfect your garter stitch in the round in this fun and stripy hat!

Two-color brioche is a knitting technique that produces delightfully squishy fabric with beautiful vertical stripes. The Garter Snake Hat by Lavanya Patricella combines brioche with the equally squishy and somewhat unusual garter stitch in the round. If you’ve never tried one or either of these stitches before, you’ll love tackling them in this few new class with Valerie!

Valerie is on her fourth Garter Snake Hat (at least!) and will help you fall in love with this great pattern, too. You’ll start by learning two-color brioche in the round, then you’ll move on to the garter. With three sessions, you’ll have plenty of time to get comfortable with each technique and likely complete the whole hat. No brioche experience is necessary, however students should have knit a hat prior to taking this class and be comfortable working with circular needles.

You will learn: Two-color brioche (brk and brp stitches), garter stitch in the round (knit and purl), special decreases for these techniques.

Skills required: Knit, purl, ribbing, knitting in the round, and standard decreases.

Yarn: Two skeins of DK weight yarn in high-contrast colors. Stop by Sister-Arts before class to shop your favorite colors.

Tools Required: US 5 (3.75 mm) 16” circular needles and double pointed needles, one stitch marker, and darning needle. All tools available for purchase at Sister-Arts.
