Learn brioche with a chunky, cozy, two-color beanie!

Two-color brioche is a knitting technique that produces delightfully squishy fabric with beautiful vertical stripes. Brioche is fun to knit, but getting started can be intimidating … so we’ve created this class to help you learn the two-color brioche stitches and make your first ever brioche project: the Bulky Brioche Slouch Hat by Lavanya Patricella!

Join Valerie in this one-session class where you’ll knit up a brioche hat using two colors of Malabrigo Chunky yarn. You should come to class with the solid color ribbing complete, then she’ll teach you the basic brioche stitches and you’ll have the entire class to practice. This pattern ends with typical decreases so you should feel comfortable finishing the pattern on your own. Motivated knitters may finish their hat and start a second one in the reverse colors to reinforce your newly learned brioche skills.

No brioche experience is necessary, however students should have knit a hat with a ribbed brim prior to taking this class, and be comfortable working with circular needles and finishing a hat with double point needles.

You will learn: Two-color brioche (brk and brp stitches).

Skills required: Knit, purl, ribbing, knitting in the round, and standard decreases (not brioche decreases).

Yarn: Two skeins of Malabrigo Chunky in high-contrast colors. Stop by Sister-Arts before class to shop your favorite colors and complete homework.

Homework: IMPORTANT- for the best experience, please complete the following before class: cast on and complete rows 1-8 of the pattern in your chosen main color. We suggest starting with the less variegated of two colors you have chosen.

Tools Required: US 10 (6mm) 16” circular needles, US 10 (6mm) double pointed needles, one stitch marker, and darning needle. All tools available for purchase at Sister-Arts.
