Lento Marled Sweater Class

$170.00

Step up your sweater game with raglan sleeves and marling!

The Lento Sweater by Jonna Helin is a wonderfully classic raglan sweater knit with two strands of yarn on an open gauge. The seamless construction paired with the size 10 US needles makes this a satisfyingly quick knit. Join Emma for this four-session class and learn to use short rows for a tailored fit, create compound raglan shoulder details, and knit a beautiful marled sweater you’ll love to wear!

What makes the Lento sweater unique is its use of two strands of finer-weight yarn (one fingering and one lace) combined with larger needles that let the yarn bloom into a lightweight, cozy fabric. We strongly recommend students knit with 2 strands of yarn together rather than using a single strand of DK yarn, which will not provide the correct gauge. This is the perfect opportunity to try out marling, aka holding two colors together! Use two strands of a contrasting color value for a fun “crunchy” combo. Or if you want a more uniform look, select a more closely matching combination of yarns. Add a mohair for a deliciously fuzzy, soft garment. Emma and Sam’s sweaters in the photos are knit in Isager Tvinni (light fingering weight) and Alpaca 1 (lace weight).

Skills needed: This is an advanced-beginner class. This is not recommended to be a first sweater course, but is a great next step after you’ve knit your first sweater. Students should be familiar with knitting, purling, ribbing, knitting in the round, basic pattern reading, and basic sweater construction. We ask that you please have completed a gauge swatch before the first class.

You will learn: Knitting with 2 strands held together, German Short Rows, raglan sweater construction, Italian bind-off, KFB and PFB Increases, and making pattern modifications including modifying a provisional cast on.

April 4, April 11, April 18, May 2 (PLEASE NOTE - there is no class on April 25th.)

Cost: $170.00 per student, 6 student capacity*

Yarn: Any fingering + lace weight yarn held together or any 2 yarns that will get you a gauge of 15 stitches by 21 rows. It is not recommended to use one single strand of yarn, due to the loose gauge of the pattern. Visit the shop before class to make your selection and come to class with a gauge swatch completed. We’ll discuss how to use the gauge swatch during the first class.

Materials: US 6 and US 10 circular needles in 16” and 32” lengths, an extra circular needle for tubular cast on, stitch holders or scrap yarn, stitch markers, row counter or some way to count your rows, tape measure, darning needle.

Pattern: Purchase Lento Sweater by Jonna Helin on Ravelry. Bring a printed copy or a tablet you’re comfortable working on to class.
